Dundee company Outplay celebrates success of online word game

Word Trick: Online game success for Dundee company.

An online game similar to Scrabble is proving a massive success for a new Dundee company.

Outplay has been in existence for only the last 18 months but 200,000 people worldwide are now playing their game Word Trick.

So far 20 million words have been played by competitors across the globe using Facebook and iPhones. 80% of players are women.

The game has reached number one in Apple's app store chart in five countries and the top ten in 46.

Richard Wood, from Outplay, said: "It's one of the ideas of our owner's and he came to Scotland with the idea and we set up on it. Scrabble is quite a well known game it's kind of based on a Scrabble-esque theme.

"So it's a word game you can play with your friends. So it's very easy to pick up and play and because it's on Facebook and iPhone it's very low barrier to entry and so you can get a game and play with your friends and it's just good fun to be honest.

"The sky's the limit to be honest. These games are so popular. It really could go sky high. We're hoping for the best and we will keep going with the work as we are."
