The first show of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo went off without a hitch as a month-long run gets under way.
A preview and dress rehearsal of the show took to the castle esplanade on Thursday with performers from around the world marching and dancing their way from the castle.
As well as the traditional pipes and drums, the audience were treated to some Kylie, Superman, BMXing Dennis the Menace and Minnie the Minx and a tribute to the Queen.
Over the next month around 200,000 people will watch the show on the esplanade.
The producer Brigadier David Allfrey said the dress rehearsal went well and the team were looking forward to the public performances.
He said: "It's been fantastic, it really has. This last week we’ve had thousands of talented musicians and dancers from all over the world coming together and watching them get to grips with a very difficult story has been inspiring."
