Professor Claude Wischik has been in charge of mental health at Aberdeen University for the last 11 years (2008). He studied medicine in Australia then started a distinguished research career at Cambridge University, in the field of clinical dementia. Since moving to Scotland he’s concentrated on developing therapies for Alzheimer’s Disease, the most common type of dementia. Professor Wischik has offered hope to sufferers and their families by developing a new drug that could slow the disease’s progress by as much as 80%. His work has been hailed as breakthrough in the battle against Alzheimer’s. Viewers were urged to vote for him as ‘Top Scot’ in the 2008 Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Awards.
