Phoenix Honda Glasgow Skye Pipe Band finished a respectable eighth place in the Grade 2 contest at Saturday's World Pipe Band Championships, a three-place improvement over last year's result.

The set they played was: The Links of Forth, Susan Macleod and MacAllister's Dirk.

The band take their name from one of the last Highland Associations in Glasgow.  Formed in 1968, they are the only remaining pipe band on the circuit with Glasgow in their name.

The band host the Pre-Worlds Concert and are responsible for inviting some of the top bands to Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall for a preview of the music that awaits fans at the world championships.

The World Pipe Band Championships took place in Glasgow Green on Saturday, attracting an estimated estimated 45,000 spectators.

As well as the piping contest, the event also played host to the world drum majors championships and the RSPBA highland dancing championships.
