Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia put on a fine performance at the Cowal Highland Gathering, finishing among the top Grade 1 pipe bands.

They finished in fifth place in the Grade 1 competition. They were placed fourth and fifth by the two piping judges, and fifth by both the drumming and ensemble judges.

For their march, strathspey and reel set they played Balmoral Highlanders, Dora MacLeod and The Smith of Chilliechassie.

Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia at Cowal

Formed in 1972, Boghall and Bathgate is an organisation focussed towards the competitive side of the pipe band movement, and is currently under the musical direction of Pipe Major Ross Walker and Leading Drummer Gordon Brown. The organisation has a number of bands competing in different grades.

The Cowal Highland Gathering took place in Dunoon at the weekend, and among other events there is the final major pipe band championship of the year.

As is traditional, after the results were announced many of the massed bands then paraded down Argyll Street as an impressive finale to the three-day gathering which attracts thousands of visitors to the area.
