Canadian Daniel Carr has spoken of his pride at winning the World Adult Highland Dancing Championship at Cowal on Saturday.
Carr told STV immediately after the win: “It’s awesome, the best feeling in the world, right here, right now.
“When I was young I didn’t place in championships, and I didn’t get even judge’s points. But when I turned 15 I found highland dancing to be the love of my life. I don’t think I could live without it, and that’s when I really started to improve as a dancer, which led me to winning this title.”
Also crowned Best Overseas Adult Dancer, Daniel spoke of his amazing run up the ladder at the World Adult Highland Dancing Championship, which take place at Cowal every August.
He explained: “Last year I was second, the year before that I was third, and the year before that I was fifth, so each year I’ve come up.”
Daniel also had some very warm words for this year’s runner-up David Wilton, the Forfar dancer who had won the three previous championships in an amazing run of victories.
The Canadian said: “I just want to say that David Wilton is one of the best dancers in the world. He’s a great friend and it’s a very proud moment for me.
“It’s the biggest competition in the world for highland dancing, and when you’re up on that stage... I get the best feeling in the world, chills down my spine, and it just gives you that extra bit of energy and momentum to shine. So it’s a brilliant feeling to be up on that stage.”
