It was a day of surprises at the Cowal Highland Gathering this weekend as Boghall and Bathgate won the Grade 1 pipe band championships.
Well known for rearing young players, Boghall and Bathgate beat last year's champions Field Marshal Montgomery into second place, with this year's world champions St Laurence O'Toole in third.
There was a great result for Inveraray and District in their first year in Grade 1, who took fifth place in the competition on a day of variable weather conditions.
The Cowal Pipe Band Championships is the last major event of the pipe band calendar, and attracts a host of the top bands.
Field Marshal Montgomery won Champion of Champions, crowned as the best overall pipe band of the five major pipe band competitions.
Meanwhile, Daniel Carr of Ontario pulled off another shock in claiming the highland dancing World Adult Championship.
David Wilton, who had won the previous three titles, came in second, though still won the title for Best Scottish adult dancer.
