Piping Live! to the Worlds 2012: STV’s coverage of bagpipes’ biggest week

Bringing 40,000 visitors and hundreds of pipe bands and soloists to Glasgow, the two events showcase the best piping from around the world. Check out our highlights here.

Taking place from Monday August 6 until Sunday August 12, Piping Live! Glasgow International Piping Festival sees the top names in the piping world performing around the Scottish city.

It centres around the World Pipe Band Championships on Saturday, which sees hundreds of bands from around the globe descend on Glasgow Green to compete and prove their worth – with Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band keen to cling on to their crown from last year as the world’s best band.

  • World Pipe Band Championships 2012 - a great day! – People came from all around the world to compete at the World Pipe Band Championships 2012. And it wasn't just for the piping - competitors came to compete in the Highland Dancing, as well as the Highland Games.
  • Pipe Idol 2012 – Spanish piper Ruben Alba Garcia performs a stunning set at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow.  
  • Friendly rivalries at Todd's Bar – Pipers and fans enjoy the friendly atmosphere at Todd's Bar, and they reveal their favourites to become World Pipe Band Champions.
