The results of a study which has been analysing Scotland’s genetic make-up have discovered we are descended from around 60 lineages.
Alistair Moffat from Scotland’s DNA will deliver the results of the project at the Edinburgh International Book Festival on Tuesday.
The company in Melrose tests individual’s DNA to reveal their deep ancestry going back thousands of years.
They have brought together results from 3000 tests to explore the genetic make-up of modern Scotland.
The largest group of people, around a third of those tested, started coming to Scotland 10,000 years ago.
Some Scots can trace their lineage to medieval Africa, the biblical kingdom of Sheba and even to as far away as Siberia.
