Loch Lomond Seaplanes announce a new service linking Glasgow to the popular tourist destination of Tobermory on the island of Mull.
At the moment, by car and ferry, the journey can easily take five hours. A seaplane can do it in 35 minutes.
Residents are extremely enthusiastic about the new venture, pointing out that it is more than ten years since Tobermory itself even had a direct ferry link with the mainland.
The market for the plane is intended to be a mix of tourism and commerce.
For example, there are a number of wildlife cruise operators on Mull. It will now be possible for Coastguard Agency personnel to carry out boat inspections quickly and efficiently, using the seaplane service to get them to the island.
Loch Lomond Seaplanes say they have plans for other routes to the islands, including Skye and Arran.
