Kyle Warren is one of the most promising young talents in the Scottish music scene. The 23 year old has been performing with pipe bands around the world and across the grade levels for over a decade and recently released his first album Wanted and a book of his own compositions titled Tunez.
As you might expect, he has been heavily involved with Piping Live! this week.
“I was up at seven a.m. on the first day, then straight to rehearsals with my own band, then I had two gigs yesterday: one in George Square and one in the evening” he told us. “My band is the Kyle Warren band, and we had a gig this morning, so it's been a crazy start already!”
As well as being involved in Piping Live!, Kyle is also preparing for the World Championships on Saturday where he will join grade one band Field Marshall Montgomery.
“This is my first year in the Field Marshall Montgomery Pipe Band and I have to say it's probably the only band I've ever aspired to play in” he explained. “I remember being one of the guys standing watching the band tuning up and playing and I did that since 2000, so eleven years later to be standing now in the circle and not out of the circle watching is a phenomenal experience.”
Playing in one of the most hotly tipped bands for the Worlds, does Kyle have any thoughts about their chances of winning?
“Personally it's a very exciting time. The band's been going very well this year: we've won the Scottish, the British, the European and the All Ireland Championships” he said. “So, of course, we couldn't be going in after a better run, but we definitely don't want to get complacent. We just have to focus on having a good tune and that's all you can do.
“Then it's in the hands of the judges and hopefully they'll enjoy the music we perform on the day.”
