A Highland teenager is being tipped for the top in the Scottish traditional music scene.

Button box player Brandon McPhee, from Caithness, has won several awards and is already one of the best junior players in the country.

He recorded his first album at the age of 11 and won the Scottish Junior Accordion Championship in Perth last year.

The 15-year-old only began playing five years ago when his grandad encouraged him to give it a go.

He said: "He played tunes in the house and I went into the kitchen one day and heard him.

"I asked for a shot of the accordion and he then started teaching me for about two weeks. My uncle Daniel then carried on and asked me if I wanted lessons.

"I had lessons with him for about two years. Now I'm just teaching myself by ear."
