Over 40,000 spectators, 8,000 pipers and 16 nations gathered in Glasgow Green this week to watch the 2011 World Pipe Band Championships – but the biggest draw was arguably the tournament’s iconic beer tent.

Winners and losers gather at the festival’s famous beer tent to talk over their performances and meet & greet old friends. Pipers, families and visitors from around the globe raise a glass to the weekend’s entertainment.

The tent always attracts a large crowd and is an example of the close relationships formed between rival pipers during the championships.

Pipers Drew Caddis and Willie Andrew from Kilmarnock pipe band told STV about the pipe band family.

“We are all one big family; as long as you win,” joked Drew. “You get a great sense of community in pipe bands.”
