It was the most important day on the piping calendar and it proved to be more than worth the wait. As Glasgow Green filled with over forty thousand spectators STV caught up with Ian Embelton, Chief Executive of World Pipe Band Championship the RSPBA to find out what makes this event so special.

“The weathers fantastic, thousands have turned up and we’re having a great event. If you win the world championships you remember it for the rest of your life.”

The event which seen 16 nations compete for the sought after title was made all the more sweet as locals, tourists and competitors came together to celebrate the day with drinks, laughter and music. However, it was the chance to come to Glasgow, a much loved location for pipers, that truly made the event magical:

“To come to Scotland is the pinnacle of every pipers career. We’ve got bands coming from Australia, New Zealand, the United states and increasingly now from mainland Europe. It’s a fantastic testament to what’s going on in Scotland”.
