Workmen started the construction of a 26ft high Olympic Rings logo in Edinburgh on Wednesday.
The base for the installation has been put in place on The Mound in the city centre but the five rings will be added later.
It will take between four and five days to complete and co-inside with the arrival of the Olympic flame in Scotland.
The torch relay will take place in Edinburgh on Thursday, June 14 and will feature 15 local people as torch bearers.
Nominated for the job by other members of the public, some 115 torchbearers a day will help carry the Olympic Flame some 8000 miles around the UK, eventually arriving at the Olympic Stadium in London on July 27 and signify the official start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
A free celebration at Edinburgh Castle will follow their journey, staged by the City of Edinburgh Council and LOCOG along with the three presenting partners of the relay – Coca Cola, Bank of Scotland and Samsung - with acts yet to be announced.
The Olympic Rings logo will remain in place until October.
