Prince Charles, Patron of The Gathering 2009, is set to attend Homecoming Scotland’s showpiece event in Edinburgh on Saturday.
In days gone by a mass gathering of Scottish clans would have the English shaking in their breeches and casting worried glances north.
This time, however, His Royal Highness, otherwise known as the Duke of Rothesay, will be on hand to meet the clan chiefs in Scotland’s capital.
Lord Sempill, Co-Director of The Gathering 2009, said: “We are delighted and honoured that Their Royal Highnesses are joining us for this magnificent celebration.
“It is a great compliment, and we look forward to welcoming them to what will be the greatest international gathering of the clans.”
The Gathering is set to be the largest ever Highland games and meeting, with over 125 clans attending and 400 chiefs and representatives in the city to discussion the future of the movement at the parliament.
Other highlights of the festival which celebrates Scotland’s culture include food and crafts fairs, whisky-tasting, genealogy and live music.
