The Chief of Clan Gregor spoke to us at The Gathering about what’s to be expected from a modern clan chief.
Sir Gregor MacGregor of MacGregor explained: “The role of the chief is primarily to be the representative of his clan or family, and there’s three ways of doing that.
“First of all, through constant communication with clan members and non-clan members. Second is by being an authority on clan history and Scottish history.
“The third thing is through being an active figurehead,” he added. “That’s by coming to events like this gathering in Edinburgh, going to America, Australia and similar events in those countries.
“I personally have been to places in the world that my grandfather and great-grandfather would never have believed I would have gone to, as the chief of clan Gregor.”
In total 400 chiefs and representatives (125 clan chiefs) and 50,000 punters attended The Gathering in Holyrood Park at the weekend, which was part of the this year’s Homecoming celebrations.
They descended on the Scottish capital with their clans for this historic regrouping of exiles from all over the world.
